After my first speaking engagement, someone said I was the least lawyer-y lawyer she'd ever met. This is the greatest compliment ever, and reinforces my belief that I would be the natural choice for the role of Elle Woods in a 2018 Legally Blonde*. After all, wouldn’t a modern-day Elle Woods embrace the seemingly innovative notion that a lawyer should be a trusted, proactive partner in any business venture as they grow-- not an intimidating figure reluctantly consulted in times of dire need? That’s the motivating factor that moved me and my partner, Jamie Lieberman, to co-found Hashtag Legal.
Of course, there are some very small differences between me and Elle that should probably be considered. She has a tiny dog who loves wearing clothes, and I have two hairless cats who do not. She grew up in SoCal and moves to Massachusetts, I am a Jersey girl living in the desert. She stomps in Prada heels, I prefer black ballet flats.
Oh, and also-
I have over 12 years of experience practicing law and an intimate knowledge of the online space and influencer marketing (cultivated during my years as Chief Marketing Officer and General Counsel of an influencer network). My strong desire to serve and help business owners is what drives me and what I feel most passionate about: whether it is assisting with legal matters, scaling an influencer's business, or talking about my personal experiences as an entrepreneur.
I’m dedicated to demystifying legalese and equipping my clients with the information and tools they need to meet their legal needs. My areas of expertise include contract law and negotiation, website policies, business law, intellectual property, FTC compliance and legal strategy, and certain specific movies of the ‘90s.
When speaking, my primary goal is making legal fun and accessible. Based on my knowledge of the unique challenges online consultants, freelancers and entrepreneurs face, I like to drill down to the specific legal matters and protections this particular audience needs to be proactively addressing in their businesses. Also, it needs to be fun.
You can frequently find me at conferences for bloggers and social media professionals, or you can catch me co-hosting the weekly Businessese Influencer Marketing Podcast. I’m a frequent podcast guest and guest expert. I would love to discuss what I’m reading and your book recommendations with you, but those who know me insist I warn you that broaching that subject is a serious time investment. Engage at your own risk.
*If you haven’t seen Legally Blonde, you need to block out time on your schedule and get on that. It's called self-care.
